July 31, 2006. Spokane County migration continues to pick up although
extreme heat has kept most Birders indoors.

Two great birds were found during the past ten days.

On July 22, an adult SANDERLING was found at the south end of West Medical
Lake. It was last seen on July 23. This is only the second county record
that I am aware of.

On July 28, a PARASITIC JAEGER was observed flying over Eloika Lake. It
soon left. This is the first county record that I am aware of.

Some migrating shorebirds have been found although mudflats are in short
supply. Good numbers of SOLITARY SANDPIPERS have been reported with one
flock having ten and another having six birds. The first summer RED-NECKED
PHALAROPE (juvenile) was near Cheney July 27.

The first summer AMERICAN PIPIT was at Turnbull NWR July 26.
The first summer RUBY-CROWNED KINGLET was on Silver Hill July 28.
Migrant RUFOUS & CALLIOPE HUMMINGBIRDS have been noted near Cheney.
