Tweeters,
Warm, slightly humid, south breeze, mostly cloudy skies, and rain on the
way at Turning Basin #3. Had lots of action at the Oxbow Osprey nest
yesterday with Jim Kaiser (USGS) and Jim Schulz dropping by to check on
that nest. Ed was near the nest for just a brief period, and the birds
returned promptly. Boeing now has an (internal-only) website with a
camera trained on the Oxbow nest. It's a long-distance shot, but pretty
clear.

Today, a sub-adult Bald Eagle stopped by on the river early in the
morning, and the male Osprey, a bunch crows, and some gulls harassed the
heck out of the eagle until it left, heading north. This afternoon, an
adult Bald Eagle started coming into the territory, and the Oxbow male
Osprey came off it's perch, heading toward it. The eagle turned to soar
further south, and the Osprey turned to head back.

Two interloper Ospreys came into TB3 while I was outside, and the Oxbow
male took off toward them. All three birds soard higher, away from the
river, and were joined by the Hamm Creek male. Lots of verbal abuse.
After a time, the interlopers headed northeast, and both local Ospreys
headed toward their respective perches.

A couple of Bushtits foraged by, and a Bewick's Wren was feeding a
fledged young 'un not more than 3 feet from where I stood.

Bird of the Day: Spotted Sandpiper - the first of the year was on the
south shoreline near the Boeing bridge.
