June 2, 2006. The following interesting birds have been reported in
Spokane County during the past week:

There were 6 new county year birds being: WESTERN GREBE, RED-NECKED
PHALAROPE, CASPIAN TERN, FORSTER'S TERN, COMMON NIGHTHAWK, and NORTHERN
WATERTHRUSH bringing the group year list to 220. Check out the progress at
http://www.spokaneaudubon.org/

A WESTERN GREBE & 3 WESTERN OR CLARK'S GREBES were on Newman Lake June 1.
4 RED-NECKED PHALAROPE'S were in a closed area (Stubblefield) of Turnbull
NWR May 29 seen by volunteers doing point counts.
A CASPIAN TERN was on Turnbull NWR May 24. Possibly the same bird was on
Williams Lake June 2.
4 FORSTER'S TERNS were on Williams Lake May 30 & 31, but have been missed
since. They are rare for the county.
COMMON NIGHTHAWKS returned May 31.
A rare for the county NORTHERN WATERTHRUSH was discovered near Elk June 1.
The location is on the south side of Camden, 1/4 mile north of the
intersection with Boundary Road.

3 LEAST FLYCATCHERS have been found on Turnbull NWR. The easiest is in the
first Aspen Grove after entering the main gate.

The Liberty Lake GREAT-TAILED GRACKLE was again located. Its tail has been
damaged.

So far, no Clay-colored or Brewer's Sparrows have been found.
Now's the time for vagrant warblers.

Good Birding,
