Tweeters: A couple of days ago a Washington birder was commenting on the lack of Hermit Warblers in certain areas of Washington. While we Canadian birders realize some Washington birders are lucky enough to have these birds pass through their backyards, for the most part, we have to rely on the popularly described areas for this bird, to have a chance of finding them.
To this end, Brent and Carolynn Schmor and I travelled to the Capital State Forest area today to search for this bird. We definitely did not catch the dawn chorus, as we did not arrive in the area until about 1:00 p.m. Nevertheless, we headed for the Delphi entrance, and, fairly low down, Brent glimpsed what he thought was a Hermit. The call/song, however, didn't seem right, so we headed higher up. I would estimate about halfway to the top , along what I think was the C-line Road, we all had unobstructed, and long views of what was clearly a pure Hermit. A beautiful bird. Thor
