Subject: [Tweeters] Bay-breasted Warbler June 7
Date: Jun 7 12:07:18 2006
From: Paul Cozens - pcozens at comcast.net

The Bay-breasted Warbler was seen by Paul Hicks, Ted Kenefick, and me this
morning at the pre-described location, from 7:15 until about 8:00, when we
departed.
Directions:
The previous directions mentioned taking WA 504 from Castle Rock east to FR
1900, north onto FR 1901 until the intersection with FR 1909. The bird was
singing from just beyond this intersection. Coming from Seattle, I found it
a bit shorter to take WA 505 (exit 63) from near Toledo to WA 504, then east
a couple miles to FR 1900. You need to heed the speed limit through Toledo
(25 MPH.) From Seattle it took two hours and ten minutes, with no adverse
traffic.
If you go, be prepared to hear a song which is beyond the range of my
diminished hearing. The song is quite high, about the frequency of
Golden-crowned Kinglet. I had the bird in the scope for many minutes this
morning, watched it throw back its head and open its mouth, yet I could not
hear the song. Hicks and Kenefick could, however. Only after I moved closer,
within 50 feet of the perch tree, and made little amplifiers out of my
hands, could I make out the song.
Watch out for logging trucks.

Thanks,

Paul Cozens
