Tweets,
The BAY-BREASTED WARBLER was "singing" his little heart out, right at the intersetion of FSR 1901 and 1909 (as per previous descriptions of the spot) at 6 AM and still carrying on when we left (Patrick and Ruth by then had it pinned down) about 6:45.
Cameron Cox got some decent photos, but back lit against the overcast they won't be great works of art. I got decent recordings of the "song," which is a nearly constantly repeated 4-5 high-pitched "see" notes. I am amazed that Russ Koppendrayer found it in the first place, as it is in the middle of nowhere and vocalizes in a most unassuming manner. Great find, in any case.
Also, the CLAY-COLORED SPARROW continues on territory along Melville St. at Rock Prairie just west of Tenino. At Weir Prairie just north of Rainier we heard NORTHERN BOBWHITE, CHIPPING SPARROWS, NORTHERN HOUSE WRENS, and saw a goodly number of PURPLE MARTINS apparently nesting in the snags at the "fir island" at the prairie.
