Today 11 of us walked the full loop at Nisqually in cool, breezy conditions.
To say it was a slow day would be an understatement! The grass was high and
so were the water levels inside the refuge, while it was low tide on the
sound. Not exactly ideal conditions.

Highlights include a flock of 20 or so BAND-TAILED PIGEONS along the
Nisqually River out near the ring dike and a couple of MOURNING DOVE out near
McAllister Creek. We also saw five SWALLOW species and had several good looks at
SWAINSON'S THRUSH.

We did see MALLARDS, WOOD DUCKS, and CANADA GEESE with young, and there were
3 hatch year BUSHTIT out foraging.

All told we had 41 species, with nothing new for the year.

Mammals seen included MUSKRAT, LONG-TAILED WEASEL, COTTON-TAILED RABBIT, and
EASTERN GRAY SQUIRREL.
