Phil Bartley located an AMERICAN BITTERN and a BREWER'S SPARROW on Bateman
Island on May 20.

On May 21, John Mundall noted a migrant SWAINSON'S THRUSH in his Connell
yard. On May 31, one was banded at the Wallula MAPS Station.

RED-BREASTED NUTHATCHES are uncommon residents, but Jim Dillman noted a pair
nesting in his Richland yard.

Birds are still returning and moving through. Mary Lilga reported a
TOWNSEND'S WARBLER on May 29, a WESTERN SCREECH-OWL on May 30, an EASTERN
KINGBIRD on May 31, and a COMMON NIGHTHAWK on June 1, all in the North
Richland area. An easy place to see Common Nighthawks is Horn Rapids County
Park.

Bob Woodley found an adult FRANKLIN'S GULL at the overlook just east of
Madame Dorian Park near Wallula on June 5.

At the Paterson Slough Unit of the Umatilla NWR near Plymouth on June 7, Bob
Woodley and Nancy LaFramboise found 2 male RED-BREASTED MERGANSERS near
rocks in the Columbia River. A BONAPARTE'S GULL, a RED-NECKED PHALAROPE and
2 BLUE-WINGED TEAL were in the pond there.

On June 8, Dennis Rockwell discovered an immature RED-SHOULDERED HAWK at Two
Rivers County Park. This is only the second time this species has shown up
in Benton county and the third for the area. It did not remain in the park,
so keep a lookout for this bird.

To report your own sightings, please give your name, phone number, date, and
sightings after the tone. Thank you.
