Hi Tweeters,

A day without birding is a sad day for me indeed and I
have sort of been here and there lately with a few
interesting sightings. I will title the location in
capitals.

HOME=LAKE MERIDIAN, KENT

I read Michael Hobb's post about Common Nighthawk at
his house tonight in Kirkland and immediately thought
this is just way too weird. This evening I added
Common Nighthawk to my yard list as well but I only
saw and heard one bird not three! It was fairly high
in the sky and heading west calling all the way. My
second ever nighthawk for the westside.

SOUTHCENTER COSTCO COOT POND

I don't know the real name of the pond but when I
discovered a few years ago that American Coots bred
here that is the name I have given it. Not many noted
though today-one adult cootie with two cootlets.
Pied-billed Grebe with four grebelets. Abundant Cedar
Waxwings and a calling Virginia Rail, and a singing
Bullock's Oriole. With no sun and being directionaly
challenged my guess that the Green River trail that
leads to this pond is east of the store. From the
main entrance it is the far right hand corner walk up
to trail and go about .1 mile in the same direction
and the pond is on the left, the river on the right.

MEDINA PARK

There is a lingering or nonmigrating juvenile male
American Wigeon here. The Great Blue Herons that
nested in the cottonwood trees out in the wide open
are getting close to fledging. There are four very
large and strong young birds in the lower nest and
three in the upper. There are also three active nests
in the Douglas Fir but they are far less visible.
Bullock's Oriole is nesting but I did not spend the
time to hunt down the nest. I was here on Friday.
Google Medina Park for excellent directions.

LAKE FENWICK PARK

After Ollie Olivers statement at the WOS meeting that
you just get out of your car in the parking lot and
the Barred Owl is right there I had to go test that
statement. I went about it quite backwards and didn't
see the owl until I was ready to get into my car to
leave. Yes it really would have been ridiculously
easy to see when I got out of my car but I missed it
until I left, go figure. The City of Kent webpage for
Lake Fenwick Park will give you a Mapquest. The owl
spot is on the west side of the road at the Disc
(frisbee in my book) Golf Course. The owl I saw was
just west of the parking lot perched on a low snag.
I was here on Wednesday evening after work.

Happy birding to all.
