Hi Tweets,

It seems we have a minor influx of Common Nighthawks into King County today. First, Michael Hobbs reported them on the east side of Lake Washington, then Kathy Andrich saw one in Kent. That emboldens me to accept the heard bird over my yard in West Seattle today - something I was shy of doing at first. Around 4 or 5 PM I heard a single, loud and distinct "Peent!" call of a Nighthawk while working in the garden. I rushed over to the most open part of the garden but never saw the bird, nor did it call again. Although I was very sure of what I heard I wasn't intending to add it to my yard list, just because i was feeling conservative ( a rare moment for me).

I did add Chestnut-backed Chickadee to our fledgling yard list (#46), so I guess I will tick the nighthawk for #47. Oddly enough it seems we may break 50 species in our first three months without a single Song Sparrow! Very odd...
