"Common" Nighthawks are still relatively common in many rural areas outside
the metropolitan Seattle area and sightings in these more rural areas may
not be noteworthy, but they have become quite scarce in the metropolitan
Seattle area since about 20 years ago and some of us in this area miss them
very much and would love to see them here again. If there was something we
could do to help them get re-established here it would be a much appreciated
endeavor, similar to the much appreciated work Kevin Li did in getting the
Purple Martins re-established here. Some people suspect that the
exponential growth of the crow population has been an important factor in
their demise here. A reduction in gravel roofs where they may have nested
may be another factor. As far as I know none still nest in Seattle, as they
did at least 25 years ago.

all the posts about nighthawks made me curious . So I looked them up in my
field guide. It says they are common and that their range covers the whole
U.S.
I hate to ask a stupid question, but why is it so note worthy that they
are being seen?
