LAYSAN ALBATROSS-small numbers almost daily
SHORT-TAILED SHEARWATER-one large group at a distance
RED-FACED CORMORANT-There are 50-100 in one group breeding on the north
side of the island.
Pelagic Cormorant
Aleutian Cackling Goose-100s daily, most of which don't spend the night.
Eurasian Wigeon
Mallard
Northern Shoveler
Northern Pintail
Green-winged Teal-Aleutian ssp.
TUFTED DUCK-as many as 22 on Upper Lake. There were still 3 when I
flew out.
Greater Scalp
Common Eider
Harlequin Duck
Black Scoter
Long-tailed Duck
Common Goldeneye
SMEW-The males were gone when I got there.
Common Merganser-Eurasian ssp.
Red-breasted Merganser
EURASIAN KESTREL- first spring Shemya record

WOOD SANDPIPER-for a week they were almost a trash bird.
Wandering Tattler
GRAY-TAILED TATTLER-several, could not make id without the call.
BAR-TAILED GODWIT-was at least one Black-tailed before I arrived.
Ruddy-turnstone
RED-NECKED STINT-a one day only
LONG-TOED STINT-maybe six for a week
Rock Sandpiper-numerous, working on nesting
Dunlin
RUFF-1 male
COMMON SNIPE-fairly common for a week
PARASITIC JAEGER-a gorgeous and approachable dark pair
BLACK-HEADED GULL-5 individuals, they would only stay for a day or less.
MEW GULL-Kamchatka ssp.-Only 2. Hope they split this one.
SLATY-BACKED GULL-2
Glaucous-winged Gull
ARTIC TERN-Small sporadic numbers
ALEUTIAN TERN-a pair
Pigeon Guillemot
Marbled Murrelet
ANCIENT MURRELET-several daily
HORNED PUFFIN-daily the last two weeks
Tufted Puffin
ORIENTAL CUCKOO-a very exhausted male
Common Raven
SIBERIAN RUBYTHROAT-a good looking male
EYEBROWED THRUSH-4
YELLOW WAGTAIL-3
Song Sparrow
Lapland Longspur
Snow Bunting
BRAMBLING-a number of flocks, as large as 20
Common Redpoll.

Too bad this is such a difficult place to get to.
