Greeting All,

I spotted a Western Wood Pewee today with markings I can't explain. There was no doubt about the ID; the call was correct and ALMOST everything looked right as well. The problem was a small, square white patch just above the bill and between the eyes. I had good long looks at the bird on several occasions in various lighting over a 15 to 20 minute period. There is no doubt that the feathers in that area were white.

Any information / explaination anyone can offer??
