Hi Vicki and Tweeters,
I am no expert, though we have first hand experience with eaglets
fledging. One year the pair of eaglets fledged the end of July, about 2
months
old and another year when only one parent was feeding them(the other drowned
in Chuckanut Bay when the eaglets were about 5 weeks old), it took the two
eaglets an extra month to fledge. They practice flapping their wings and
hopping
around the nest for quite some time before they make their first flight
(usually to
a nearby branch) and then still hang around, coming back to the nest and
being fed
by their parent(s) for several weeks more. The parents have alot to teach
them before
they are ready to leave their first home!
