Hey tweets, sorry for the late post, but I was at the Fill last Sunday and
saw the female BULLOCK'S ORIOLE feeding among the weeds along the slough
near the baseball diamond - the same site where the so-called but in my
experience imaginary Virginia rail was reported prancing about earlier this
year. Also along that slough, I spotted two GREEN HERONS. I believe they are
a pair, as they seem to like to stick together. I hope nesting will ensue. I
was reading a book about the Fill published in the 1950s that reported the
first sighting of a Green Heron at the Fill. It caused quite a stir at the
time. It was originally spotted by the manager of the canoe rentals, who
wasn't sure what the heck he had seen but was sure he hadn't seen one of
them before. The Fill's first Green Heron liked to stand on the dock and
look for fish. In those days, bitterns were quite common in that general
area. Oh to have been a birder back then. - Connie, Seattle
