Friends, I need to ask for some information from those of you who keep better records than I do. I'm used to seeing flocks of both Evening Grosbeaks and American Goldfinches, but I don't have good information about exactly what times of the year such flocks are seen, in contrast to times when the birds are nesting and are most likely to be seen only as individuals or pairs. My impression is that in July and August Goldfinch flocks break up as nesting begins, though I think one often finds several pairs nesting rather close together. And if anyone has comparable information about the other two goldfinch species found in the Southwest, that would be useful, too.
