Tweets,

Yesterday nine of us walked Nisqually on a warm, still, relatively quiet
day. Lots of sunshine, but the grass is high (head high in some spots) and all
the trees are leafed out to the max. That being said we did see some good
birds.

Highlights included great views of a VIRGINIA RAIL near the trail on the way
back from McAllister Creek. We heard it first and then got to watch it for
several minutes as it foraged on the edge of the marsh. A bit later we found a
GREEN HERON on the side of the slough at the end of the pond across from the
parking lot. We also had 2 AMERICAN BITTERN fly over the field to the left of
the trail out to McAllister Creek.

WILLOW FLYCATCHERS and YELLOW WARBLERS were common as were BARN, CLIFF, and
TREE SWALLOWS. We also saw a few VIOLET-GREEN SWALLOWS. We also had a
BULLOCK'S ORIOLE feeding young near the visitor center.

All told we had 37 species for the morning, with WESTERN WOOD PEEWEE being
new for the year. The only mammals seen were COTTONTAILED RABBITS.

Until next week....
