Subject: [Tweeters] Seeking Birding Pals in Kittitas/Yakima areas?

Hello,

I haven't heard from anyone who would like to hike the Umtanum yet, but I wanted to report that I camped at South Fork Meadows (Taneum region) the last few evenings and was delighted to find quite a colony of Evening Grosbeaks living there. What beautiful birds! They flew in close to the rig and had a party, where I was able to study them up close, from the window of the rig, which served as a great blind. How fun!

I read that there is to be a Kestrel Festival. Has anyone been to this before?

I am visiting in Kittitas County and would like to go birding with some folks in the area who know how to find bluebirds. I would also love to hike to Umptanum Falls and see all the birds along the way! I hear the rattlesnakes are bad this year. Has anyone discovered that to be the case? Also, I'm wondering which free camp sites in the area are the prettiest to camp at, having the best birds? I heard Boise-Cascade is nice, but I don't know how to get there. I also heard there's a nice free site near Lake Kachees.

Thanks in advance,
