Sunday June 18, 2006:
The Sunday bird walk went to the Beaver Ponds just off Power Point Road in
Fairwinds at Nanoose Bay. Eighteen birders found the following thirty-four
species:

Barred Owl
Mute Swan
Rufous Hummingbird
Northern Flicker
Pileated Woodpecker
Pacific-slope Flycatcher
Olive-sided Flycatcher
Willow Flycatcher

Hutton's Vireo
NorthwesternCrow
Violet-green Swallow
Chestnut-backed Chickadee
Red-breasted Nuthatch
Bewick's Wren
Winter Wren
Golden-crowned Kinglet
American Robin
Swainson's Thrush
Orange-crowned Warbler

Townsend's Warbler
Western Tanager
Spotted Towhee

Saturday June 24:
Three CASPIAN TERNS were spotted flying near the shoreline at Parksville
Bay.
A RUFOUS HUMMINGBIRD and a ANNA'S HUMMINGBIRD were exploring a backyard
along Lancashire Avenue in Nanaimo.

Friday June 23:
A BULLOCK'S ORIOLE was seen in a yard in the 5600 block of Amsterdam
Crescent in north Nanaimo.

Saturday June 17:
A PERGRINE FALCON, being chased by a NORTHWESTERN CROW, was seen speeding ov
er the bird store at 6314 Metral Drive in north Nanaimo.
A PILEATED WOODPECKER was spotted at suet feeders along Crestwood Place in
Nanaimo.
A BARRED OWL was sighted on Mudge Island being mobbed by AMERICAN ROBINS and
a HUMMINGBIRD.

Friday June 16
Two CEDAR WAXWINGS and a WILLOW FLYCATCHER were seen in a field next to Renz
Road in Parksville.
