Several years back when I was still working at UW, I found two ducklings had
fallen through the large opening of a storm drain on Pacific Avenue, and the
frantic mother was quacking around nearby.

Fortunately, I found a burly undergrad to help me shift the lid, grabbed the
ducklings, and restored them to their mother who stood there quacking at me,
all to generous applause from the gathered crowd of a dozen or so onlookers.

For all I know this happens all the time to them as well.
