Hi,
Over the meadow at Wallace Swamp Creek park I saw an American Crow hovering; I watched as it returned to the top of one of the fir trees, then launched out again, this time I could see that he was after the same flying insect ( about the size of a bumble bee) that he had missed on the first attempt. That is behavior I have never observed in Crows. As I continued my walk I saw two more examples of flycatching Crows, probably 3 different birds but the same one could have moved with me through the park. Thinking that there is a particular type of bug that is out at this time of the year or on HOT summer evenings I watched for more hovering crows the next two evenings and didn't see any.

Can any of you offer an explanation? Is Hawking insects common behavior for crows?
