This morning I got a late start, running into Michael Hobbs' early birds having nearly completed the loop as I was just beginning. They had heard a Lazuli Bunting singing but hadn't gotten a look at it. Later, after 8:30 am, I completed the loop in the opposite direction and was back near the compost/sandpile area, so went looking for the LABU. I heard him singing, couldn't see him, and was just about to give it up as a lost cause when he flew to a visible perch (in the trees east of the dirt pile). It'd been quite a while since I saw one of the buntings. Now I'm hoping the Ash-throated Flycatcher will return...
Also of interest today: a pair of Wood Ducks with 4 babies...
