Tweets,

First I must apologize for this non-bird intrusion into Tweeters, but I
feel at this time I have little choice. Please read on if you are so
inclined, or delete if not.
It has come to my attention that US Department of Fish and Wildlife is
seriously considering the consolidation of the Columbia National Wildlife
Refuge staff. This decision could be made as early as July 7, 2006.
Unfortunately, this would be most tragic for the Othello area if the staff
and office of the Columbia National Wildlife Refuge (CNWR) were to be
?abandoned and consolidated? by our federal government.
The relationship between the community and CNWR, the management of the
refuge and the public relations and economic advantages would all be
destroyed. In short, individual staff members and the location of CNWR has
become a shining example of how government best serves a small town, an
ecosystem and the greater good of a rural area.
Forrest Cameron of The Refuge Regional Office in Portland, has assured some
that the office will not physically close, but with budget cuts to all
Federal Agencies, some cuts may still be made, possibly to staff. The
criteria for this decision is based on

1. will the cuts save money

2. Will making those cuts be efficient in the long term.

THIS DECISION COULD BE MADE AS EARLY AS JULY 7TH SO DON'T DELAY. THIS
CORRESPONDENCE MUST BE EMAILED OR FAXED!! SNAIL MAIL WILL TAKE UP TO THREE
WEEKS AND IT WILL BE TOO LATE

I have email addresses and faxes for many of those that need to hear from
you. RESPOND OFF-LINE PLEASE.

Again, My Apologies
