Scott, I simply describe the call from a musicians perspective, and with the success I have had calling them vocally myself. The habitat description is merely what I have learned from other birders over the years, although it may be more conducive to their wintering habitat. I know in eastern Wa, I have heard and seen them far from any water; (in winter months, haven't tried in breeding season) but on this side of the mountains, I have often had success in the mixed woodlands/wetlands nearby in the past. Not always, but often. I was not attempting to describe the call note, since the person asking didn't mention a call note that I recall.
