The AOU (American Ornithological Union) split the snipe a couple years ago. Common Snipe now refers to only the Eurasian birds. Wilson's is now the US birds. Some books haven't caught up yet.

Now I'm confused. Sibley says Common, Kaufmann says Wilson's. The
online Seattle Audubon birdweb site says Wilson's. Same bird, different
name? There were still 5 of 'em at the marina today, and I really
enjoyed seeing them.
