omygosh, I didn't realize Extraordinary Encounters wi Ordinary Birds
was written by LL Haupt! I plan to run not walk to our tiny local
bookstore to order her newest book. E.E. wi. O.B. is not an
intellectual treatise, but is an utter delight. In the first place,
it is written by someone local (to seattle, that is) about local
birds--that alone is refreshing; sometimes it seems most ornithologic
writers haven't crossed the Rockies. This author's love and joy for
birds shines through every whimsical, informative chapter. Perhaps
hardened birders ;} will find the book beneath them, especially since
in the loveliest fashion she weaves her young marriage and newborn
daughter through her stories. Her chapter on the Varied Thrush is
worth the book--but so are many other chapters--I just can't reread
it since the book is still packed, god knows where. But even hardened
birders might like to gift this book to their loved ones--it'll make
a birder out of anyone.

ps, Devorah Bennu, thank you for the review, it was a real sell for the book.
