After breezing down thru my accumulated Tweeters messages and deleting most of them, including the one I'm alluding to, I decided to pitch my two cents worth.

Although this low-income senior citizen (me) has never been more than about 2 miles inside Mexico, I've been looking at books and articles from time to time.

To make it short, one might consider the small state of Nayarit. Not only does it include the well known San Blas Christmas Count territory, but the capital of the state is Tepic, located at 3,000 feet elevation for cool sleeping in the summer. The whole area is well recommended by Peter Alden in his "Finding Birds in Western Mexico" (1969).
