hi tweeters- re: honduras - we have been to honduras 3 times -mostly roatan-once on the mainland-roatan is nice for diving ,ok for birds - there is a very nice +current book on birding honduras - by bonta + anderson - 2 americans who were in the peace corps there + did bird research as well- i emailed them + got lots of great info- tela is a wonderful place-purple gallinules -also in town at nite all the herons + egrets roost on their own breed -separate tree-a spectacle - we went out w/ garifuna tours(easy to find website) + kayaked + saw boat- billed + tiger herons, pygmy kingfishers, howler monkeys -also up by la ceiba,we saw on a kayaking day- a three toed sloth, - pale- billed woodpecker, 20 green herons, aracaris ,motmots- i would highly recommend birding there -there is a biosphere-moskitio-which sounds alluring, remote-need a guide, but in apr.+may very visible resplendant quetzals-i didn't feel worried about gangs, but i think that big cities are the most dangerous + least birdy!-go for it-cheerss,maxine reid- 360-658-7391-tulalip bay, baconmf at verizonmail.com
