Not really bird related, but I'm sure there's a sci-fi/techno thriller
fan here in Tweeters.

I am posting this query to the lists I belong to in hopes somebody
remembers this book's title and author.

It came out in 1999 and was a techno thriller about a group of sicko
eco-terrorists of the most perverse genocidal kind. They develop a virus
with the intention of spreading it via aerosol spray at the 2000 Sydney,
Australia Olympics. The virus is totally fatal to all who they tested
it on. The eco terrorists do develop a vaccine only for themselves and
their families. The terrorists set up secure compounds in the Midwest
and plan to observe the planet going back to a pre human environment.
Of course the eco terrorists have technology, but all the other humans
will be dead from their virus. Of course their plot is foiled at the
last moment, and the terrorist leaders are killed by the hero.

Do any of you recall reading this book? Recall the author? I thought
it was Tom Clancy or Michael Crichton, but I couldn't find any books
matching that premise.
