Dear Tweeters,

I just returned from a trip to the Gray Whale birthing lagoons (Laguna Ojo de Liebre) in Baja. It was a small tour with ten people plus tour guide. We stayed in Guerrero Negro which is a working town as opposed to a resort town. I felt safe the entire time. All of the people that I met were very friendly and most gracious. As a woman, I would not travel there by myself but felt very comfortable traveling in a group with a guide.

We did encounter Federales several times. There is a lot of drug activity in Baja and the Federales are looking for drug runners.

The only thing that I found at all scary was the fact that upon re-entering the U.S. we were not questioned or asked for ID. So much for Homeland Security.
