I can't remember who but a few people were interested in Merlin sightings and Bushtit behavior.
Man what a day! Spring is here and the natural world around us has responded accordingly! The Bushtits that have nested for 2 years right outside my back door returned today and started to work on their nest again. They both blew down (1 pair has 2 nests) during the storms this year. First full day without the flocks of Bushtits feeding on the suet.
A Merlin flew over the house tonight as well and headed into the park next door. He was rippin'!
Mitred Parakeets returned to the neighborhood today after a 2 month long absence. They just crack me up as they are so noisy and talkative! They too are paired up but still working in tight groups.
Junco's, Crow's, Bewick's Wren and Chickadee's all nesting near the house now and the priority has definitely shifted from feeding and surviving to nest building and mating. Colors are very vivid. Flickers look like they have been painted with Prickly Pear juice! Very bright!
