Hi tweets,
I am sure we have a Northern Saw-Whet and not a Pigmy Owl here in the outskirts of Renton. But of course we have not seen him.

I have a Petersons CD that I check bird calls and songs and this CD has almost an identical call for those two owls so it was confusing. I got on line and found some sites with owl calls by putting "Northern Saw-Whet Owl Call" and "Northern Pigmy Owl Call" in the search box on Google. This shows the Pigmy owl call as much slower than the Saw-Whet. Our owl call is two toots per second or 100-120 per minute.

We tried calling him in but he seemed to fly farther away when we made the call. We may have scared him off?
