There was one Snowy Owl across the river at the end of the spur dike.

At least two, possibly four, pair of Wood Ducks flew up. Two pair flushed from
the slough east of the dike intersection. One pair flew toward the boat launch
near which earlier, a pair had flushed, so they could be the same pair. The other
pair flew toward Wiley Slough. Later I saw a pair from the bridge across Wiley,
so they could have been the same pair. Despite all the times I've gone there this
was the first time I've seen them there. It's also the first time I've heard them.

I saw one Marsh Wren and heard many more. Only one flock of Golden
Crowned Sparrows were gleaning on the dike - there were four flocks just a
week or so ago. A Downy Woodpecker pair and more of the usual - a good
birding day and great weather in a beautiful place.

The Snow Geese are still on Fir Island.

At home a Winter Wren hopped around the car for a bit. The first two Pine
Siskins showed up at the feeder Sunday. A Rufous Hummingbird zipped about
where I hang the feeder, looking indignant that it wasn't there yet. I read that
those tiny hummingbird brains can remember not only where their favorite
flowers are, but when they last visited them. As I write a Ruby-crowned Kinglet
is gleaning an area covered by a Golden-crowned Kinglet yesterday.
