Tuesday March 21, 2006:
A TURKEY VULTURE was seen above Mostar Road and highway 19.
A WESTERN GULL was seen on the high school playing field in Duncan.

Monday March 20:
Several TREE SWALLOWS were spotted flying over Somenos Marsh in Duncan.
An AMERICAN GOLDFINCH was seen visiting feeders along Gerald Drive in
Nanoose Bay.
A male RUFOUS HUMMINGBIRD was seen at feeders in the 700 block of Erminskin
Road in Parksville.
A male RUFOUS HUMMINGBIRD was also seen in the 1600 block of Fawcett Road in
Cedar.

Sunday March 19:
A DOUBLE CRESTED CORMORANT was spotted in the pond at Longwood Station in
north Nanaimo.
A NORTHERN SHRIKE was seen in a field near the entrance to Coldwater Farms
on Wrens Road in Parksville.
A RUFOUS HUMMINGBIRD was seen coming to feeders at the Longwood Station in
north Nanaimo
A GOLDEN-CROWNED KINGLET, a WILSON'S SNIPE and several SWALLOWS were seen at
Buttertubs Marsh in Nanaimo.
The Sunday bird walk went to the Little Qualicum River Estuary. The
highlight of the bird walk was the amazing discovery of a SLATY-BACKED GULL
just off shore at the viewing tower in Qualicum Beach! Further off shore
there was an estimated one to two million seabirds in a hugh raft. Thirty
birders found the following forty-five species:

Saturday March 18:
RED CROSSBILLS, a HUTTON'S VIREO and a TURKEY VULTURE were seen at the end
of Kaye Road behind the Government Weigh Scale in Parksville.

Friday March 17:
Five TURKEY VULTURES were seen flying over the Island Highway in Parksville.
A BELTED KINGFISHER was seen perched above a water garden, in a yard along
Sunset Road in Nanaimo.

Thursday March 16:
SPOTTED TOWHEES, CHESTNUT-BACKED CHICKADEES, RED-BREASTED NUTHATCH, AMERICAN
ROBINS, a BALD EAGLE and VARIED THRUSH are visiting a yard along Sunset Road
in Nanaimo.

Wednesday March 15:
"RARE BIRD ALERT"
One SLATY- BACKED GULL was seen at the Englishman River Estuary in
Parksville.
Another SLATY- BACKED GULL was seen at Parksville Bay in Parksville.
A TURKEY VULTURE was spotted high above Nanoose Bay.
Two PINE SISKINS are visiting feeders along Kingsley Street in Parksville.
