It has crossed my mind more than once that those recent hurricanes that wrought all that havoc along the Gulf of Mexico maybe have set the stage for good Ivory-bill foraging sites. Anywhere from the Big Thicket of Texas to the Florida panhandle, where suitable stands of large trees are still to be found. Those large beetles may have already layied their eggs in those storm-weakened trees.

But the professional ornithologists must already know that.
