Subject: [Tweeters] Marymoor Park Report (Redmond, King Co., WA) 2006-03-22

Tweets - I never did send out a report from last Wednesday, but I did want
to mention a couple of things.

We slogged around under unrelenting mist and light rain, though at least the
cloud cover wasn't too thick. It really seemed like we didn't see much,
probably because I had spring-like expectations that went unmet until
Thursday (see yesterday's East Meadow report). However, our species count
was really quite good at the end.

Highlights:

Wood Duck Pair at Rowing Club pond
Common Merganser Graham saw a pair checking out a hole
Sharp-shinned Hawk One along boardwalk early
Virginia Rail Matt *saw* one early
Rufous Hummingbird 2-4, most near E end of boardwalk
Northern Shrike Megan had one in the afternoon
Cedar Waxwing At least 24 at the Rowing Club
Western Meadowlark 1 singing in East Meadow

There was a RACCOON near the Compost Piles early, and we saw a RIVER OTTER
from the lake platform. Wednesday night, I got a report of a COYOTE near
the mansion.

The RUFOUS HUMMINGBIRDS are violating what I thought was a cut-and-dried
rule - I don't ever remember them show up before the Salmonberries were in
bloom before.

For the day, 58 species (59 counting Megan's shrike). For the week, with
the Tree Swallow, Say's Phoebe, and Mountain Bluebird, that makes 62
species.
