This morning I went to Edmonds to see what was up.
I had the pleasure of observing Brants up close in heavy surf caused by some stormy weather. A flock of about 51 Brants were being pushed up close to the shore just north of the fuel pier. From the off leash dog area I could see a big storm coming out of the south. I was watching a flock of Surf Scoters when a California Sealion came up from under them. I was out on the fishing pier when the really heavy hailstorm started. All kinds of birds came very close, Rhinoceros Auklets, Pigeon Guillemots, a Pelagic Cormorant, Red-necked Grebes, Red-breasted Mergansers and both kinds of Goldeneyes. As this storm went north it produced a wonderful, low arched rainbow along with wavy patterns of falling hail.

An additional bonus was a Snipe at the marsh. I saw no Swallows.....
