Hi Tweeters,

Last week I reported a Taiga Merlin at my house. Steve Mlodinow e-mailed
me saying he thought it might have been a Prairie Merlin. He e-mailed
Brian Wheeler for his opinion, which follows:

Steve,

Appears you have peaked at a few field guides lately? Certainly
does appear to be a female/juv. male richardsonii by the pale head, lack of
malar, presence of thin dark eyeline, and scapular spotting. I have them
mapped in much of e. Wash. in my big book.
