Hi Tweeties!

Feeling a bit down and generally crummy, my husband and I dug out of the
house and headed up to Fir Island (Skagit County, WA) for a "let's see
what we can see" sort of whirlwind sort of tour. We spied three bald
eagles standing sentry duty in trees along the dikes, and found a flock
of snow geese grazing near the road. We pulled over and opened the
window to a cacophony of geese. Thousands and thousands of geese it
seemed. I walked out into the field a little bit just to get a closer
look (of course my binos were on the kitchen counter!) A few moments
later, at the far end of this gathering of geese they began to lift up
in unison and I heard a sound I have never heard before...The "whomp,
whomp, whomp" of a thousand wings beating almost at once. The whomp
became a rhythmic whir. The geese rose up in a wave and soon it was a
swarm of geese circling around the field. Soon another large group
lifted up and swirled in the opposite direction. The flocks flew
directly overhead. A small feather drifted down and caught on the edge
of my husband's glasses.

He ran for cover. His balding pate would have made a wonderful target
for goose poop. I was wearing a hat.

The goose adventure lifted our spirits and we feel better today.
