Tweeters,

On the way back from the Othello Crane Festival on Sunday, March 26th at
about 2pm, I birded the Wanapum Lake area. I was surprised to find two
LONG-TAILED DUCKs on the western side of the lake just south of the
Wanapum State Park Campground. I'm assuming that these are unusual at
this inland location. I last saw them swimming southward about 50 yards
off the shoreline towards a mixed group of Greater Scaup and Common
Goldeneye. A Common Loon showed me a Golden Eagle that was flying
overhead in this same area. It kept looking up at the eagle which made
me look too! A drake Barrow's Goldeneye was in a flock of Common
Goldeneyes about a quarter mile south of I-90 on the northeast side of
the lake.
