Martha, this sounds like the Pelagic Cormorant that my husband and I have
been seeing around the Edmonds ferry since early last November.

We have a few pictures of it posted at

I was getting on the Edmonds ferry to go to a dog show, tide was in and at
the top of one of the big pilings for the ferry we saw a double-crested
cormorant with an odd coloration. It had a pure white belly on the lower
1/2 of the underside and a thin white line on the front side of the throat
(lateral) running up the throat for about 1/3 distance. The rest of the bird

appeared all dark. It did had the distinctive head shape of a
double-crested, bill color and such. We saw it as the ferry was pulling out

and there was no time for a camera or a second look.
Has anyone observed this bird before?
