Hello all,
Walked Bennington Lake today in cloudy cool and breezy weather. Watched a
nice flock of 5 Mountain Bluebirds atop the teasel, a Northern Goshawk was
calling (it has been there for over a week feeding on Robins) and the
Northern Harriers were doing their display flights all around the lake.
Spotted an Osprey high up headed north and the Killdeer were all upset
because the corps has flooded the lake very high and their nest are under
water now. A couple of Say's Phoebe's were calling and the Townsend's
Solitaires are still hanging around.
Ginger Shoemake had a pair of Rough-winged Swallows at their usual nest spot
in south Walla Walla.
Yesterday we had Long-billed Curlews, Vesper Sparrows and Great Horned Owl
with chicks on Byrnes Road west of Touchet. Lots of Red-tailed Hawks on
nest.
The Walla Walla County year list now stands at 146 - we are off to a great
start this year!!!!
Later, MerryLynn
