Ah, there's nothing like selective editing...
I believe I prefaced the paragraph with "As a bird bander..."
and added a statement about lack of intuitiveness to MGWA
and MAWA at the end. As a bander, I have no choice but to use
the 4-code for banders. And I suspect that if the AOU were
to go to a universal code, they'd adopt the bander's 4-code
since this is also the code used by most (but not all)
government agencies. And I suspect that any code adopted by
the AOU would be summarily ignored by everyone who learned
a different one.
In my personal notes, I use MGVW for MacGillivray's and
MAGNOLIA WARBLER!!!!! for Magnolia Warbler.
All the more reason to use 4-codes sparingly when communicating
with others.
