The Para Ponds NW of Othello do not have much right now, but flocks of
blackbirds on the bench where the cubing plant and the Land of Lakes grain
elevators are (at the north end of Broadway) will sometimes have flocks
feeding on spilled grain. Friday I had a "swarming" flock of 4 species of
blackbirds (including several tricolors) at the Camano Island Cattle Company
, which is 8 miles west of Othello along Highway 26. They were gone 35
minutes later, but we did see flocks moving in the distance Sunday at the
same location. My guess is there is a movement starting toward the breeding
marshes but history says there are still some around. Both Whitman and
Spokane counties have had reports this month.

I don't know what to think of the migration this year. Very late Snowy Owls
and my first Rock Wren (which normally over-winters) was yesterday, but two
March sightings (a month early) of Western Kingbird?!!!
