Subject: [Tweeters] more on Baird's Sandpipers in spring migration

Several eastern WA birders have emailed me that they see Baird's Sandpipers
in the spring in most years (especially when there is good shorebird habitat
available). Looking at this species spring migration track, it appears that
birds migrating north on the west side of the plains take a northwest turn
as they approach our latitude. This would put some of these birds into
northern Idaho and eastern WA as they head northwest toward the Alaskan
arctic. (A slight deviation in heading or affects of weather could
exaggerate this.)

Over time, a tool like eBird could make this information easily accessible
and easy to visualize. All it requires is for birders to submit checklists
(including hopefully historic data when this feature is available!).

good eBirding!

thanks, Charles.
