At a little after 1:00 this afternoon, I had two White-tailed Kites fly over
Suyematsu's Farm in the central part of Bainbridge Island. They did not land
and continued heading east so folks should keep an eye out for these two in
other parts of the Puget Sound Basin. The first appeared not more than a few
hundred feet above my head so I was able to obtain fantastic looks with my
binoculars. As the kite circled and gained altitude, the black shoulder
patches on the light grey upper wings were clearly visible. As the first
kite disappeared beyond the trees to the east, a second one flew over and
continued in the direction of the first. I was amazed as this is a raptor I
was not expecting to see on Bainbridge Island.

Our local skeptic (and I don't really blame him in this instance), Ian
Paulsen, asked me if I was sure they were not male Northern Harriers. No
mistaking these two - definitely White-tailed Kites! Keep on the look-out.
