What I wrote and the response I received to the fireworks issue.

Dear Ms. Farrar,

Thank you for sharing your concern about the Windermere Cup Sky Light
Celebration. We have been working closely with city officials on
this event for several months but only learned of these important
ecological concerns last week. We are currently reassessing the
Union Bay launch site and exploring alternate plans for this Friday?s
show. Event organizers will meet with environmental experts and
members of the city?s special events committee tomorrow to review
these concerns and discuss possible alternatives.

I assure you that Windermere Real Estate takes this issue very
seriously and we thank you for taking the time to bring this to our
attention. We will announce any changes to this show as they are
solidified this week. In the meantime, I encourage you to check
www.windermere.com/events for event updates.

Thanks again,

Subject: Fwd: Fireworks in Union Bay

Dear People at Windemere,

I am writing because of concern for your plans to sponsor a fireworks
display at Union Bay on opening day of boating season. I believe
there would be a greater impact on community goodwill if Windemere
responded to the value of the wildlife (and pets and infants) in the
neighborhood by publicly calling off the fireworks display and,
instead, creating something that more permanently enhances the
livability of the area - that of maintaining the serenity and bird life.

Imagine if you conducted a survey of residents and visitors to the
area on ways to increase positive regard for Windemere Real Estate
Corporation. How many would be positively affected by a fireworks
display? Perhaps many would not even be aware that it is sponsored by
Windemere. How many would be negatively affected by a fireworks
display, or would temporarily be entertained and then forget it and
Windemere? How many would be positively affected by the publicity
of donation of land and creation or maintenance of a nature area in
the name of Windemere? This would have lasting positive impact on
community opinion.

I, for one, would remember that Windemere cares only for explosive
publicity in an environmentally sensitive area and when it comes time
to sell my home would avoid listing it with Windemere.

Please consider this option of donating to environmental
improvement. Please consider that this area is home to thousands of
nesting birds and ducks and other water creatures and those who
appreciate them.
