Hello all,
Today we birded the Tyson ponds (used to be Iowa Beef ponds) and observed
the following:
* = new year bird for the county - puts us to 183 so far this year.
*Semipalmated Plover - 1
*Greater Yellowlegs - 3
Lesser Yellowlegs - 1
Dunlin - 18
Western Sandpiper - 60
Least Sandpiper - 4
Black-necked Stilt - 9
Am. Avocet - 2
*Cinnamon Teal - finally 1 pair
Eurasian Wigeon - 3 males
American Wigeon - 200+
Ruddy Duck - 12 pair
*Franklin's Gull - 1
*Bonaparte's Gull - 1 ( also 6 birds in breeding plumage at McNary NWR HQ)
Common Raven - 33 in one thermal over the ponds.
Yellow-headed Blackbirds - many singing their wonderful song!
Also many N. Shoveler, N. Pintail, GW Teal, Redhead, Ring-billed Gulls.
The Walla Walla River delta has no mud showing - the water level is VERY
high.
