Hi Tweets,

I was thrilled today to find a female Rufus nesting on the same trail that I
found a nesting hummingbird last year. It is about 100 feet give or take
from the old nest site. This time I was ready for her and so after hearing
her but not seeing her, I marked the spot and started looking for her on my
return. I knew the spot to start watching and there she was flying up to a
branch above my head. I backed up and gave her enough room to fly back to
her nest. I took some pictures but the brush did not help as it is well
camouflaged from where I stood, I had to pass by close to her again to get
to the car and she flew again and I stopped to check the nest, there are two
perfect white eggs. I moved off and she flew back down quickly.

So I am thinking this is the same female or an offspring?

And for another question, would an Anna's Hummingbird just show up on a cold
evening (last night). I have never had Anna's before and though it was
almost dark, and the Rufus were guarding the feeders without rest. A
different looking female was getting harassed hard so it was difficult for
me to see her clearly, as the red bomber was relentless. Tonight all is
quiet on the southern front, go figure....

I have three feeders up and two males and three females as far as I can
tell. And there was ice in the water bucket this morning!
