Yesterday, May 3,at about 7 pm there was a Snowy Owl on a power pole beside
US 2 about 5 miles west of Davenport, near the Rocklyn Rd intersection. I
stopped and turned around to study the bird, along with a couple of local
residents who were also appropriately impressed. At first I thought the bird was
a male, because it was so white, but I ended up guessing it was a female,
mostly because of the size, and also because when it flew there was a fair
amount of black flecking on the wings and coverts. Is this a late record for
eastern Washington?
